Hello, I’m Karen Nowicki, Dr. Bud’s Office Manager. I grew up outside of Syracuse, New York, and moved to Maine in 1990 when my husband, Bill, landed his dream job as a Portland firefighter. Shortly after our move, we were blessed with twin daughters.

After nearly 30 years in the animal health industry, I ‘retired’ but soon found myself back in the workforce. I became the secretary for Village Baptist Church, a per diem assistant for a large animal integrative veterinarian, and eventually, Dr. Bud invited me to join his practice. Working for a human doctor, an animal doctor, and serving God—it doesn’t get any better than that!

Personally, I love spending time with my family, photography, horseback riding, writing, traveling, and adventuring. Bill and I own a small hobby farm in Lyman, home to our three rambunctious Jack Russells, a thoroughbred mare, several chickens, parakeets, canaries, and various other critters.

Our daughters are now grown and on their own. Kate, a former Marine, is currently a 911 dispatcher for Portland, South Portland, and Cape Elizabeth. Stephanie followed in her father’s footsteps and is a firefighter in Portland. She is married to Erik and is a wonderful mother to Collin.
